Sisu

Sisu de Jalmari Helander dont certains avaient pu apprécier Père Noël Origines (2010), est certes assez bas du front, sur un script rédigé sur du papier job, porté par un postulat (prétexte, MacGuffin, cochez la case utile) plutôt réjouissant qui pourra éveiller une certaine forme de plaisir coupable à suivre ce héros taiseux (trois lignes de dialogue au compteur), jusqu’au-boutiste, halluciné, hallucinant, porté par un acteur charismatique (Jorma Tommila modèle bloc de granit), massacrer du nazi sans fioritures. Blindé de références (Mad Max, Tarantino évidemment et pas le meilleur – Inglorious Basterds dans la ligne de mire – et en premier lieu le western), sur fond de paysages magnifiques, le film a pour lui d’assumer la “cartoonerie” de l’entreprise même si son dernier tiers enfonce le clou jusqu’à la tête et finit par tirer à la ligne malgré sa petite heure trente de jeu. Tout cela est très anecdotique mais il s’agit bien d’un plaisir coupable, non ?

Jalmari Helander’s Sisu is admittedly a rather low-key affair, based on a paper job script and supported by a rather pleasing premise (pretext, MacGuffin, tick the appropriate box) that may awaken a certain guilty pleasure in following this silent hero (with only three lines of dialogue to his name), to the end of his rope, hallucinating, hallucinating, supported by a charismatic actor (Jorma Tommila, a model block of granite), slaughtering Nazis with no frills. Packed with references (Mad Max, Tarantino, of course, and not the best – Inglorious Basterds is in the crosshairs – and above all Westerns), set against a backdrop of magnificent landscapes, the film is able to assume the “cartoonish” nature of the enterprise, even if the final third drives the nail into the head and ends up drawing the line in spite of its short hour and a half. It’s all very anecdotal, but it’s a guilty pleasure, isn’t it?
