A.C.T. – Fallin (EP)

Il faut se faire une raison. Sans album studio depuis Circus Pandemonium en 2014, les Suédois de A.C.T. s’en remettent aujourd’hui au format EP (Extended Play pour ceux du fond qui ne suivraient pas) avec Rebirth (2019), Heatwave (2021) et donc ce nouvel opus sobrement intitulé Falling. Avec un « Digging a Hole » qui pourra évoquer un mélange plus ou moins heureux d’une production signée Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion avec ce côté festif plutôt entraînant, presque festif (« One Last Goodbye »). La suite sera du même acabit, flirtant avec un mélange eighties (on pense aussi à Pure Reason Revolution sur « The Girl Without a Past ») et une pop un poil hirsute (« A Race Against Time ») qui ne s’éloigne jamais trop d’une musique qui laisse entrer la lumière et la chaleur sans jamais oublier une production soignée. Le résultat est une collection de chansons efficaces et plutôt agréables même dans ses (rares) moments écorchés qui pourront malgré tout sembler un poil anecdotique aux amateurs d’excroissances musicales tarabiscotées.

You have to make up your mind. Without a studio album since Circus Pandemonium in 2014, Sweden’s A.C.T. are now relying on the EP format (Extended Play for those at the bottom who would not follow) with Rebirth (2019), Heatwave (2021) and therefore this new opus soberly titled Falling. With a « Digging a Hole » which can evoke a more or less happy mixture of a production signed Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion with this rather lively, almost festive festive side (« One Last Goodbye »). The sequel will be of the same ilk, flirting with an eighties mix (we also think of Pure Reason Revolution on « The Girl Without a Past ») and a bit shaggy pop (« A Race Against Time ») that never strays too far music that lets in light and warmth without ever forgetting careful production. The result is a collection of effective and rather pleasant songs even in its (rare) torn moments which may nevertheless seem a bit anecdotal to lovers of convoluted musical excrescences.
