Neal Morse – MorseFest 2020: Lockdown

Encore une fois Neal Morse rempli sa besace. Retour aux alentours du confinement de 2020 pour un MorseFest alors particulier puisque cette année là diffusé uniquement en streaming (ou presque). Quoi qu’il en soit, deux soirées et une playlist qui allait taper dans les albums de reprises Cover to Cover (3 disques au compteur) et l’intégralité de Sola Gratia sorti la même année. Même si l’évènement n’avait pour l’occasion pas vocation à être exploité par la suite, Neal Morse finit par céder aux demandes de fans et après un remixage et un remontage vidéo de la chose, voici donc les 4 CD et les 2 Blu-rays avec en bonus une version de « The Great Nothing » enregistrée en 2018. Du lourd qui passe de « Where The Streets Have No Names » (U2) à « Come Sail Away » (Styx) en passant par « Baker Street » (Gerry Rafferty), « 25 Or 6 To 4 » (Chicago), « Starless » (King Crimson), « Runnin’ Down A Dream » (Tom Petty), « Live and Let Die » et « Maybe I’m Amazed » (Paul McCartney) et puis, bien sûr, du Spocks Beard (la trilogie des « Thoughts »), du Sola Scriptura (« The Door / Conclusion ») avant d’entamer les quatorze titres de « Sola Gratia ». Tout cela est copieux, trop peut-être pour se digérer d’une seule traite, mais tellement généreux qu’il balaye toute réserve d’un revers de guitare. Que ce soit la production audio ou vidéo, l’ensemble reste dans la continuité des précédentes éditions, et s’il ne s’agit probablement pas de la porte d’entrée la plus idéale, l’ensemble saura combler tous les fans du bonhomme et de ses fidèles acolytes.

Once again Neal Morse filled his bag. Back to around the confinement of 2020 for a particular MorseFest since that year broadcast only in streaming (or almost). Anyway, two evenings and a playlist that would hit Cover to Cover cover albums (3 discs on the clock) and the entirety of Sola Gratia released the same year. Even if the event was not intended for the occasion to be exploited later, Neal Morse ended up giving in to fan requests and after a remix and a video reassembly of the thing, here are the 4 CDs and the 2 Blu-rays with a bonus version of “The Great Nothing” recorded in 2018. All this is copious, perhaps too much to digest in one go, but so generous that it sweeps away any reserve with the back of the guitar. Whether it’s the audio or video production, the set remains in the continuity of previous editions, and if it’s probably not the most ideal entry point, the set will satisfy all fans of the guy. and his faithful followers.
