Bjørn Riis – A Fleeting Glimpse (EP)

Il n’aura pas fallu très longtemps pour retrouver Bjørn Riis sur nos platines. Quelques mois seulement après son quatrième album solo, Everything to Everyone, le guitariste/chanteur de Airbag s’en retourne avec un EP intitulé A Fleeting Glimpse que l’on pourra traduire par « un rapide coup d’œil ». Entouré entre autres de Arild Brøter et Øyvind Brøter (Pymlico), notre ami peut laisser libre court à son influence Pink Floyd, du chant de Durga McBroom (qui avait participé à A Momentary Lapse of Reason et Division Bell] jusqu’à la cover qui n’est pas sans rappeler les création de Psygnosis, pour laisser vagabonder l’auditeur au fil des quatre titres proposés. Guitares en spleen ciselé (« Dark Shadow part 1 »), synthétiseurs expérimentaux (« A Voyage to the Sun »), folk léger, solaire et prégnant (« Summer Meadows »), le mini voyage proposé par Bjørn Riis ne dépaysera certainement pas les amateurs du bonhomme, ni ceux d’Airbag et encore moins les exégètes du Floyd. En conservant toute la saveur d’un style qui regarde David Gilmour et compagnie droit dans les oreilles, Riis parvient à insuffler une atmosphère moelleuse où l’on se sent bien, en terrain connu, avec une délicatesse si respectueuse qu’il est difficile de ne pas y succomber.

It didn’t take very long to find Bjørn Riis on our turntables. Only a few months after his fourth solo album, Everything to Everyone, the guitarist/vocalist of Airbag returns with an EP entitled A Fleeting Glimpse. Surrounded by Arild Brøter and Øyvind Brøter (Pymlico), our friend can let his Pink Floyd influence free, from Durga McBroom’s vocals (who participated to A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell) to the cover which reminds us of Psygnosis’s creations, to let the listener wander through the four tracks offered. Guitars in chiseled spleen (“Dark Shadow part 1”), experimental synthesizers (“A Voyage to the Sun”), light, solar and pregnant folk (“Summer Meadows”), the mini journey proposed by Bjørn Riis will certainly not disorientate the fans of the man, nor those of Airbag and even less the exegetes of Floyd. By preserving all the savor of a style which looks David Gilmour and company right in the ears, Riis manages to insufflate a soft atmosphere where we feel well, in known ground, with a so respectful delicacy that it is difficult not to succumb to it.
