Mariusz Duda - Claustrophobic Universe
3.8Note Finale

ENGLISH VERSION

Taking advantage of the pandemic to find inspiration in his studio, Mariusz Duda (Riverside, Lunatic Soul) had immersed himself in the composition of a confinement trilogy, “The Lockdown Trilogy”, started last year with Lockdown Spaces and continued this year with Claustrophobic Universe, a fairly explicit title. Always on the more electronic sides of his music, however, he moved away from a first part which dealt primarily with confinement. With this album, Mariusz Duda compose with colors, gains in vitality and is purged of the anxiety-provoking urgency of its predecessor. Without being in the party mood, Claustrophobic Universe is lined with percussions and atmospheres that avoid too monotonous. Obviously, this is not the most melodic aspect of what Mariusz Duda can produce but the rhythms are linked, syncopate, distort (“Waves From a Flat Earth”) to offer the dreamer (“Escape Pod”) around well-felt loops (“Lemon Flavored”). The whole is quite delicate and never lacks a little light to make you want to go back without looking back. Admittedly, this scale is not new (Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and others have tried it before) but Claustrophobic Universe in its concept is enough of a change to make you want to dive your ears into it.
