Laura Meade – The Most Dangerous Woman in America

Trois ans après son premier galop d’essai (Remedium, 2018), la chanteuse new-yorkaise du groupe IZZ revient nous conter fleurette avec The Most Dangerous Woman in America. Toujours entouré de ses comparses Tom Galgano, Brian Coralian et John Galgano (accessoirement son mari), Laura Meade développe autour d’une dizaine de titres un album concept autour d’une femme sans nom dont la voix fut réduite au silence. Entre l’électro pop et new wave qui donnera quelques échos aux années 80, l’album navigue autour de composition toujours mélodiques (« Leaving »), un peu mélancoliques (« Iconoclast », « Doesn’t Change a Thing ») mais qui sifflent agréablement autour des oreilles. On sent évidemment poindre l’influence d’une Kate Bush dans le morceau titre, mais rien qui ne vienne dénaturer un album qui sait déployer ses propres ailes (« The Shape of Shock ») pour permettre à la voix de Laura Meade de funambuler sans jamais perdre l’équilibre.

Three years after her first test run (Remedium, 2018), the New York singer of the group IZZ comes back to tell us a little bit with The Most Dangerous Woman in America. Still surrounded by her companions Tom Galgano, Brian Coralian and John Galgano, Laura Meade develops around ten tracks a concept album around a nameless woman whose voice was silenced. Between electro pop and new wave which will give some echoes to the 80s, the album navigates around compositions that are always melodic (“Leaving”), a little melancholic (“Iconoclast”, “Doesn’t Change a Thing”) but which hiss pleasantly around the ears. We obviously feel the influence of a Kate Bush in the title track, but nothing that does not distort an album that knows how to spread its own wings (“The Shape of Shock”) to allow the voice of Laura Meade to tightrope without never lose balance.
