Porcupine Tree – Closure/Continuation – Live Amsterdam 07/11/22

Ce qu’il y a de bien avec Porcupine Tree et plus précisément dans la galaxie Steven Wilson, c’est une certaine forme de constance dans la qualité purement technique des albums proposés. Après leur retour inespéré l’an passé avec Closure/Continuation (album de l’année pour mézigue, rien de moins), il s’agissait de faire fructifier la chose avec une tournée digne de ce nom que d’aucuns qualifient désormais d’adieu. Avec l’animal Wilson rien d’impossible. Quoiqu’il en soit, l’un des arrêts du désormais trio Wilson–Barbieri–Harrison (Colin Edwin n’ayant été convié ni en studio, ni sur scène), complété de Randy McStine (guitares) et Nate Navarro (basse), se fit à Amsterdam le 7 novembre 2022 au Ziggo Dome, devant un parterre de plus de 15,000 fans prêts à en prendre plein les ouïes et accessoirement les yeux. Et pour le coup, leur attente de fut pas déçue. Loin de là. Déjà par la générosité d’une setlist de 21 titres pour près de 2h30 de chevrotine millimétrée. Beau ! Et si le dernier album est très présent avec les sept morceaux dispersés sur l’ensemble de la prestation, les amateurs de la période des années 2000 seront heureux de retrouver la quasi-intégralité de Fear of the Blank Planet dont un impérial “Anesthetise“, du Deadwing (“Halo“) et In Absentia qui ouvre les hostilités (“Blackest Eyes“) et les conclut comme dans une grande parenthèse musicale avec l’imparable “Trains“. L’ensemble est remarquable musicalement, évidemment, comme la compilation d’une période plus heavy, certes, mais diablement créative qui démontrait si besoin était encore toute l’étendue de la palette de Wilson. Pour tous ceux qui voudrait ajouter l’image au son, la prestation est évidemment disponible en version Blu-Ray, donnant à voir tout ce petit monde déployer suffisamment d’énergie pour emporter la mise. Le résultat est impeccable et permet d’apprécier la scénographie des montages en arrière-plan, ainsi que les musiciens en action. Mais qu’importe le flacon ! En Blu-Ray ou en pur format audio, l’ivresse est là. Tout comme le talent. Immense.

What is good about Porcupine Tree and more precisely in the Steven Wilson galaxy is a certain form of consistency in the purely technical quality of the albums offered. After their unexpected return last year with Closure/Continuation (album of the year for Mézigue, no less), it was a question of making the thing bear fruit with a tour worthy of the name that some people already think of farewell. With the animal Wilson nothing is impossible. Anyway, one of the stops of the now trio Wilson-Barbieri-Harrison (Colin Edwin not having been invited neither in the studio nor on stage) and completed by Randy McStine (guitars) and Nate Navarro (bass), took place in Amsterdam on November 7, 2022 at the Ziggo Dome, in front of an audience of more than 15,000 fans ready to be amazed. And for once, their expectations were not disappointed. Far from there. Already by the generosity of a setlist of 21 tracks for almost 2h30 of precision buckshot. Beautiful ! And if the last album is very present with the seven tracks scattered throughout the performance, fans of the 2000s period will be happy to find almost the entirety of Fear of the Blank Planet including an imperial “Anesthetise”, du Deadwing (“Halo”) and In Absentia which opens the hostilities (“Blackest Eyes”) and concludes them with the unstoppable “Trains” like a great musical parenthesis. The whole thing is remarkable musically, obviously, as a compilation from a heavier period, certainly, but devilishly creative which demonstrated, if necessary, the full extent of Wilson’s palette. For all those who would like to add image to sound, the performance is obviously available in Blu-Ray version, showing everyone deploying enough energy to win the day. As expected, the result is impeccable and allows you to appreciate the scenography of the montages in the background, as well as the musicians in action. In Blu-Ray or pure audio format, whatever the bottle, the greatness is there. Like talent. Immense.
