Firefox - L'Arme Absolue
2.5Note Finale

ENGLISH VERSION

FIREFOX

With Firefox, was shooting his biggest budget (mainly dedicated to special effects) and despite the failure of The Eiger Sanction, he retelled the adventure of the spy movie against the backdrop of the Cold War and sophisticated fighter planes. During the Reagan period, the good Americans went on a mission here against the Soviet villains, with a hero in the sights, suffering from the remorse and trauma of the Vietnam war. Properly wrapped around its star actor-director, Firefox suffers from heaviness that prevents it from crossing the wall of simple illustration, or even simplistic illustration. By rubbing up against the clichés and stereotypes of the genre, without avoiding the unavoidable scenes of the genre or taking the necessary distance from the prevailing Manicheism, the film will ultimately be rather poorly received by critics and perceived as a stereotypical, manichean and very predictable object, even in its extended television version of about ten minutes. Forced to maintain his status at the top of the box office in order to maintain his independence at Warner (only Stanley Kubrick could be proud of such a privilege in the studio) and be able to make movies of another level of requirement, the director had to play on the tightrope to succeed the semi failure of the friendly Bronco Billy. History will prove him right. The simple fact of producing Firefox, despite its flaws and facilities, would allow him to convince decision-makers to let him run Honkytonk Man a few weeks earlier! From then on, the system would operate at full throttle. We don’t have nothing for nothing.
