Three Colours Dark - The Science of Goodbye
4.0Note Finale

How Can This Be Love?)

Bienvenue!

ENGLISH VERSION

For those nostalgic of Karnataka‘s early days, the reunion of singer Rachel Cohen and keyboardist Jonathan Edwards will have something more than just a simple curiosity. It has to be said that the side roads taken by our friends had something to occupy the minds (and ears). While Jonathan was embarking on the great adventures of Panic Room and Luna Rossa, Rachel was taking part in the launch of The Reasoning, the time of four albums. A year ago, they meet again and decide to reunite around nine original tracks and the cover of Richard Thompson‘s “Ghosts in the Wind“.

First studio album with Rachel Cohen since Adventures in Neverland in 2012, this Science of Goodbye welcomes multi-instrumentalist Tim Hamill (Luna Rossa) and starts the festivities with “Enter, Soubrette” and Kate Rocconi‘s delicate violin. The sequel follows catchy melodies with the arrival of Nathan Bray (trumpet, flügelhorn), some more atmospheric layers (“Ghosts in the Wind“) and the ever-warm voice of Steve Balsamo (“Wonderland (How Can This Be Love?)“), who is remembered for his work on Edgar Allan Poe‘s sequel to the late Eric Woolfson.

On its mid-tempo path, the album doesn’t go through the storms but allows us to target the melodic (“Rainbow’s End“, “Three Colours Dark“) while allowing ourselves some more rock (“Monster“) deviations which immediately make us think of Panic Room. Logical. With what it takes of charm and class, this Science of Goodbye, without being really a first album as our two friends know each other so well, allows this new project to get into the running without having to jealous the friends. Welcome!
